Creative Engineering Lab I for Ultraprecision Engineering |
Description |
Week 1 to 4
Focus on the basic skills in mechanics, optics, and electronics.
1. Mechanics
The students get insight in the traditional manufacturing processes of drilling, milling, turning, sawing, and filing as well as additive manufacturing processes.
2. Electronics
2.1 Safety Instruction
2.2 Manual Control
Basic introduction into the handling of a single board computer, building of basic hardware circuits on a breadboard and GPIO programming
2.3 Motion Control
Handling and controlling dc motor control, stepper motor and galvo motor with a single board computer.
2.4 Signal Detection and Amplification
Measurement of low voltage AC signals, basic introduction into soft soldering
2.5 Image Recording and Image Processing
Camera image record (CCD). Image analyzation. Image recognition. Read out information from image and use it for other application.
3. Optics
3.1 Laser Safety Instruction
3.2 Basic Skills I.
Handling optical components, Handling optomechanical components. Steering with laser beam, Lacing laser beam through iris diaphragm, Power/Energy measurement of different laser sources
3.3 Basic Skills II.
Basic knowledge of reflective optics, Basic knowledge of refractive optics, Collimate a point source Measurement of beam profile with beam profiler, Measurement of beam profile with knife edge method, Measurement of laser beam divergency
3.4 Basic Skills III.
Basic knowledge of diffractive optics, Basic knowledge of polarization optics, Basic knowledge of optical fibers, build a periscope and characterize the polarization, set up an alignment laser for infrared (invisible) light source, Build an adjustable attenuator
Week 5 to 14
Start of the projects with accompanying skill set acquirement for the projects with corresponding expert coaching and refining of the skills in Ultraprecision Engineering. |
