Title Thinking, Judgments and Decisions
Description These lectures provide an insight into psychological research and theory building on the three most important functions of thinking: namely, solving problems, generating knowledge and making decisions. In addition, they discuss the two basic tools of thinking: imagination and language. In addition to the classic cognitive psychological perspective, the lectures also take into account the findings from cognitive neurosciences and evolutionary psychology.

Slides for the lecture and accompanying material will be posted via Ilias, usually 1-2 days ahead of the lecture. Usually, a podcast will be offered for each lecture within one week after the event (no guarantee).

Textbook: Denken - Urteilen, Entscheiden, Problemlösen, Allgemeine Psychologie für Bachelor
Autoren: Tilmann Betsch, Joachim Funke, Henning Plessner
Springer Verlag, 2011

Requirements: Regular attendance of the lectures, study of literature, written exam (3 ECTS).

The book "Black Mamba oder die Macht der Imagination - Wie unser Gehirn die Wirklichkeit bestimmt" is recommended as a thematic supplement (Fred Mast, Herder Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-451-60087-6). The book is available in relevant bookstores, or it can also be purchased as an e-book. Although it is not actually a textbook, it is very up-to-date and with well-founded thematic references and is therefore ideal as a supplementary reading. Individual chapters are explicitly dealt with in the lecture. A small number of copies is available for loan in the library.

Chair: Kognitive Psychologie, Wahrnehmung und Methodenlehre

Supporting materials: Slides for the lecture and accompanying material will be posted via Ilias, usually 1-2 days ahead of the lecture. Usually, a podcast will be offered for each lecture within one week after the event (no guarantee).
