Title |
Transcultural Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology |
Description |
Psychotherapeutic work with people from different cultures requires culture-specific knowledge of health and disease understanding, because people from different cultures bring along values, norms and beliefs. To be able to help them, a transcultural competence is necessary and as a basic condition empathy, esteem and congruence are needed to establish cooperation between the patient and the therapist. Especially people from other cultures, especially from traditional communities, bring with them a specific understanding of the disease and the perception of the disease, which is important for diagnostics. At the same time, political upheavals, states of war and civil war, rising poverty and natural disasters in various countries of the world have led to an increased flight to Europe. On the one hand, they can suffer from unprocessed traumatic experiences such as war and flight, as well as experiences of migration and uprooting. On the other hand, they are confronted in the receiving country with partly completely new norms and values, institutions and a foreign language. New studies on transcultural psychotherapy and psychotraumatology as well as new treatment concepts will be presented and critically discussed.
