Nonverbal behavior in Psychotherapy |
| Description |
Nonverbal behavior is omnipresent in social interaction, and it influences both the outcome and the quality of a communicational exchange. Traditionally, therapist's nonverbal behavior has been ascribed a crucial role for the development and maintenance of therapeutic relationships, and all theoretical orientations of psychotherapy describe this observable aspect in more or less explicit form. What can and should you as a therapist do or not do on a nonverbal level?
In this seminar, we will consider the historical roots of nonverbal behavior in the context of psychotherapy, and we will look at current research employing modern technological tools (e.g. computer-based assessments).
In small groups, ways of integrating nonverbal behavior into psychotherapeutic sessions will be developed and evaluated. |
