Title |
An introduction to EEG: Theory and applications in clinical and social neuroscience |
Description |
This course illustrates the tight relation between electrical brain activity and information processing in humans.
In a first part, basic theoretical knowledge about this technique will be provided together with the description of selected applications in various research and clinical domains. Also the execution of an EEG recording continuing with a practical approach “hands on” to the data analysis will be exercised. A methodological overview of various statistical and source localization analysis strategies will complete this first part of the course.
An exam at the beginning of the second part will test the knowledge which participants acquired during the first part of the course.
In a second part, students will be asked to develop an EEG-project in a small group. Here students will learn to (a) highlight the relevance of their project, (b) link the project’s question to previous research, (c) design and conduct a small EEG/ERP experiment, and (d) present the results in a final meeting. Students will be coached during the development of the project.
While the first part will be conducted during three consecutive days prior to semester’s start, the second part will take place on a regular base during the semester (ca. two hours every forth week). |
