Description |
Lectured by Ani Baghumyan
What are media effects? Does media make us violent? Prejudiced? And what do we understand by media? These are some of the questions that students will engage with during this course. We will be studying and analyzing theories mainly (but not exclusively) from the field of psychology to try to address the role of media in the lives of individuals and societies, the power of media to make or break social movements, perpetuate stereotypes (ethnic, racial, sex, gender and so on), and influence our conscious and unconscious beliefs and behaviors. The role of both traditional (e.g. TV, radio) as well as non-traditional media (social network sites, search engines/algorithms) will be explored.
