Title |
Knowledge Management Systems |
Description |
Lecture with integrated exercises, BSc
Industrialized countries have experienced a shift from information to knowledge society. Enterprises have realized that the knowledge of their employees represents a valuable resource. Many of them are even convinced that long-term differentiation from their competitors is only possibly by superior knowledge. As a consequence enterprises focused intensively on knowledge management throughout the past years. Experts in data and information processing had a leading role in these efforts.
Against this background the course focuses on the question how the identification, acquisition, structuring, storage, distribution and usage of knowledge can be supported by IT and where the limits of such efforts are.
The following topics are addressed
What is knowledge management?
Motivation and impact of knowledge management
Knowledge generation
Knowledge storage and discovery
Knowledge transfer
Design approach for knowledge management systems
Usage of knowledge management systems
The lecture is complemented by case studies and guest talks by practitioners.
The course sessions are published as podcasts on ILIAS (no liability assumed).
