Seminar Information Systems |
Description |
More and more companies integrate and develop artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The areas of application are numerous – new applications that include algorithms as a core element like ChatGPT, recommendation systems, smart contracts, chatbots, or smart homes are emerging on a daily basis. Consequently, the many new applications are not yet fully established, they have different opportunities, but also pitfalls.
This research seminar aims to enable students to learn more about the impact as well as the challenges of AI-enabled and algorithmic-supported systems – How are they managed and lead to success on organizational as well as individual levels?
Students should not only gain practical insights but also act as researchers. By making their own informed examinations and observations as researchers, they will deepen their own understanding of the topic and shed light on the unknown. To this end, students learn how to conduct research and write a scientific paper. Besides, students also learn about classical and modern theories, concepts, and approaches to managing the development and use of algorithm-based innovations.
Similar to previous years, we seek to have companies as partners for our research seminar that work with such systems and are willing to provide state-of-the-art insights into their specific use cases and applications.
Preparation and Introductory Session: Since some students may not be familiar with AI technologies, we will provide initial input to facilitate a common understanding of the topic. For this purpose, we will provide background information in an introductory session and self-learning materials. The students will also get to know the partnering companies and their applications in the introductory session to prioritize among the seminar topics and get a jump start on their master seminar project. The topics are then assigned to the students based on their prioritization and the capacity of the supervisors. Based on an initial meeting with the respective supervisor(s), students then prepare a proposal. Once the proposal is approved by their supervisor(s), the students begin their research project. At the end of the seminar, the students will present and submit their seminar papers.
