Title Uncovering Bias in AI Chatbots: An Introduction to Content Analysis
Description Prof. Dr. Silke Adam performed by Victoria Vziatysheva.

Generative AI is increasingly becoming part of our everyday lives. ChatGPT, Bing Chat, Bard, and other AI chatbots are being used in fields ranging from education and commerce to the arts and healthcare. But can we fully rely on the information these assistants provide? The output of generative AI can be affected by various factors, including the data on which it is trained, the language and wording of a prompt, or the internal policies of the developers. The resulting problems range from chatbots being unable to answer your question to hallucinating (in other words, producing realistic-sounding but fabricated information).
In this course, students will learn to evaluate the performance of chatbots and identify their biases using one of the traditional methods of communication research — content analysis. During the seminar, students will become familiar with the research on AI-powered chatbots, go through the basic steps of scientific research, including developing a research question and collecting data, and conduct their own analysis of chatbot output.
