Title |
Nonverbal behavior in Psychotherapy |
Description |
Nonverbal behavior is omnipresent in social interactions and influences both the outcome and the quality of communicative exchanges. The nonverbal behavior of therapists is attributed an important role in establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships across schools of therapy, albeit with more or less explicit descriptions of observable behavior. What can and should a therapist do or not do on a nonverbal level?
In this block course, existing publications on nonverbal behavior in psychotherapy will be discussed and an overview of current (e.g. computer-assisted) research will be provided. Using various exercises and video feedback, the aim of the block course is to learn and practice how therapists can influence and, if necessary, optimize their nonverbal performance. |
