Title |
Multilevel analysis – individual behaviour and attitudes in contexts |
Description |
Regression models are usually based on the assumption that the units of analysis are independent of each other. In many areas of (comparative) political science today, however, it is emphasised that individual behaviour and attitudes are not only explained by individual factors, but are also influenced by the environment. Individuals therefore do not act and think independently of each other, but are shaped by the political, economic, social and cultural circumstances of the context in which they live. This fundamental idea is the basis of the multi-level analysis that is at the centre of the seminar.
In the first part, the basics and concepts of multi-level analysis will be discussed. This first part is supplemented by empirical examples and exercises. In the second part of the seminar, participants will develop their own research proposal using a multi-level model, which will form the basis for the empirical seminar paper.
Note: This seminar will be held in English to facilitate the participation of non-German speakers. Should all participants prefer the seminar to be taught in German, we could change the language.
