11852-FS2025-0-Molecular population genetics, research practical

Root number 11852
Semester FS2025
Type of course Block Course
Allocation to subject Ecology and Evolution
Type of exam not defined
Title Molecular population genetics, research practical
Description Block course according to special programme. 18.02.2025-06.03.2025. Weeks 1-3. Registration deadline 1. February in KSL.

The KSL registration for all research practicals in the spring semester will open on 08.10.24 at 03.30 am

The practical provides an introduction to the generation and analysis of molecular population genetics data. Students will receive hands-on training in different methods of DNA-extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques and how they can be adapted, Sanger-sequencing of DNA, potentially analyses of fragment length polymorphisms (microsatellites) and the use of public data bases in molecular population genetics research projects. The students will also be introduced to further analyses of genetic data in evolutionary or ecological context with established software packages and will develop an understanding of the (limits of) robustness of inferences in different research contexts.
