Title |
Spectroscopic Methods for Structure Elucidation I (NMR, MS), incl. Exercises |
Description |
The lecture conveys the basics of important analytical techniques for elucidating molecular structures: The focus is on nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS). In addition, other spectroscopic methods and chromatographic techniques for the separation of mixtures of substances are presented. The lecture includes practice sessions.
1st part (S. Schürch): Introduction to mass spectrometry (MS) and chromatographic separation methods. The lecture conveys the physical and technical basics of these techniques. A strong focus is on the interpretation of analytical data for the elucidation of molecular structures.
2nd part (J. Furrer): Introduction to modern structure elucidation using UV/Vis, IR, Raman, fluorescence and phosphorescene spectroscopy as well as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and electron magnetic resonance (ESR). |
