Semester FS2025
Type of course Lecture
Allocation to subject Chemistry
Type of exam Written exam
Title Applied Optical Spectroscopy in Chemical Biology
Description The lecture course will focus on the applied aspects of absorption, fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD) and linear dichroism (LD) spectroscopies, and how they can be used in chemical biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry and other sciences to study labelled macromolecules (DNA, proteins).
An introduction to basic photophysics relevant to the course will be given.
The course will also deal with the structure and function of organic dyes and fluorescent labels used as molecular spectroscopic probes. Other techniques like, e.g., FRET will also be covered.
The course is intended to give students a thorough practical introduction to experimental techniques that could be used by scientists from various fields (e.g., organic chemists, biochemists or molecular biologists) to complement their own research.

Also for students of MLS master.
