Title |
Psychological Assessment I |
Description |
The course “Diagnostik I” (Psychological Assessment I) consists of a lecture and a weekly exercise. The core of the lecture is the elaboration of the psychological-diagnostic process underlying the answering of most psychological questions in practice and science. The formulation of psychological questions, their decomposition into investigable hypotheses, and possibilities for operationalization will be addressed. From the perspective of decision-oriented assessment, decision rules, decision strategies and quality criteria of decisions are discussed and how these concepts can be taken into account in the diagnostic process. In addition, planning of the investigation, integration of results, and preparation of expert reports will be learned about.
Another focus of the course will be classical test theory, which underlies most psychometric tests and questionnaires. The basic assumptions of this theory will be discussed and how reliability of a test or questionnaire can be theoretically and practically determined. Furthermore, the application of reliability to narrow down the "true" value in individual diagnostics and the other main quality criteria (validity and objectivity) as well as the secondary quality criteria of psychometric tests and questionnaires will be addressed.
The contents of the diagnostic process are illustrated by means of a case study, which is also used to illustrate possible applications or the explicit consideration of classical test theory in the calculation of confidence intervals, critical differences and their significance for combining information.
Lecture and tutorial are closely coordinated and attendance of both events is mandatory, since the material from the lecture is not only repeated in the tutorial, but also expanded upon and related to a possible practical case in the context of the above-mentioned case study. A podcast for the lecture is planned. |
