Electrochemistry |
Description |
The lecture provides an introduction to the basic concepts and terms of electrochemistry. Firstly, concepts of chemical thermodynamics are transferred to electrochemical processes and differences are discussed. The focus is on the Nernst equation and its application and interpretation. Theoretical models and experimental methods for the description and investigation of the so-called electrolytic double layer are presented. The second part of the lecture deals with electrochemical kinetics. In addition to the development of a mathematical formalism for the description of electrode kinetics, methods for analysing the reaction rate of electrode reactions are presented, also taking mass transport effects into account. Aspects of the sustainability of electrochemical processes are discussed using selected examples. |
