Title BA-Grundlagenseminar SP2: Companion to the Lecture Introduction to the History of the Middle East from Late Antiquity to Postmodern Times
Description The seminar is designed as a supplementary course to the BA Vorlesung SP2 (Introduction to the History of the Middle East from Late Antiquity to Postmodern Times). It focuses primarily on deepening and reflecting upon the lecture content. Participation in the seminar requires concurrent attendance of the lecture.
In contrast to the lecture's survey-oriented approach, the seminar provides more space, time, and opportunity for review, discussion, reflection, and deeper engagement with selected aspects of the broader topics discussed in the lecture. The required readings for the lecture—primarily drawn from one introductory textbook—are supplemented in the seminar by a broader selection of scholarly literature, edited primary sources (i.e., translated and annotated original texts), and additional introductory materials.
Beyond the general group discussion, students will each prepare an independent presentation during the seminar's project phase. These presentations are based on a translated primary source, which students analyze and present to the class during the semester.
