Title |
Methods seminar: Data processing in R |
Description |
The seminar provides a practical introduction to the systematic and scientific processing of a dataset using R.
The course aims to familiarize students with the ability to independently manipulate datasets in R for various purposes. As a part of this, students will gain proficiency in the fundamentals of data preparation and practical applications of data preparation methods in R. Specifically, students will progress from working with raw data to conducting simple descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. In doing so, they will also learn all aspects of data cleaning, preparation, and manipulation using a sample longitudinal dataset composed by socio-demographic, psychological, and behavioral variables.
Students will be graded on an assignment in which they have to develop the R code (and the resulting output) to answer some assigned questions within the sample dataset.
Prerequisites for the seminar include:
• Familiarity with the statistical basics covered in Statistics I-IV (Bachelor's program). Please contact the seminar leader if you haven't attended these courses.
• Initiative, motivation, and availability of time for coding in R during the semester.
IMPORTANT: students cannot register to both this seminar and Data processing in R (E-Learning). Students can only complete either this method seminar or the e-learning course. |
