Title Pasteur to today: managing biorisks and the broad spectrum of biosafety and biosecurity
Description The dates are not yet final.

Biological agents such as microorganisms - bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites as well as toxins can pose a serious threat to human, animal and plant health. Some of these biological threats can also have a devastating impact on society and the economy.
The implementation of risk-based biosafety and biosecurity measures leads to the minimization of the impact of such hazards. Biosafety focuses on the protection of humans, animals and the environment from hazardous biological materials.

The course covers the following topics:
• General safety and interfaces
• Legal aspects
• Biosafety and Biosecurity
• Release Ordinance
• Packaging - Shipping - Transport
• Hygiene, pipetting, putting on and taking off gloves, skin protection
• Good microbiological practice – theory/ practical work
• Packaging - Shipping – Transport

Practical exercises:
• Microbiological safety cabinet
• Horizontal laminar flow bench
• Spills
• Personal protective equipment
• Airlocks
• Waste - disinfection
• Chemical safety

Lecture, group work, student presentations, practical part.
