Title |
Fleeing, psychosocial consequences and treatment possibilities |
Description |
Wars, authoritarian power regimes and environmental disasters repeatedly cause people to flee their homes. According to UNHCR figures, over 120 million people worldwide are currently affected by this extreme situation. Leaving home and arriving in a new country is associated with psychological stress in many respects. Examples include cultural changes or the loss of status, control, security, social relationships and a sense of purpose. These stresses often result in psychological disorders.
Based on research literature, the seminar will explore the psychological consequences of flight, their treatment options and (innovative) approaches to improving the psychological plight and care of refugees. In addition, the seminar will provide access to current world events by discussing the reasons for flight and political discussions will be placed in the context of psychological effects. |
