Title AE: Publishing Research in the Natural Sciences: Essential Writing Skills and AI Tools
Description This writing course (B2–C2) is for doctoral students, postdocs, and some MSc students from the faculties of Science, Medicine, VetSuisse, and Human Sciences. Participants learn how to plan and optimize the writing process; profile and target journals effectively; organize their texts from macrostructure to sentences and key phrases; plan and efficiently draft introductions, discussions and conclusions, abstracts, and titles; and revise and respond to reviewers. Input on and practice with AI tools are integrated into each of the seven sessions. A substantial proportion of the input is delivered through self-study tasks to allow sufficient presence time for extensive pair- and groupwork, peer review activities, and individual consultations.

Each participant produces three components of a text for publication; each component receives peer feedback, and the instructor provides detailed feedback on drafts of each component. These components and one peer review response to another participant’s text are the elements evaluated at the end of the course.
