Title |
Anatomy and Biophysics of Plant-Atmosphere Gas Exchange |
Description |
Semester week 9-14. 5-week block (without vacations/holidays) on Monday all day and Tuesday afternoon.
Monday 9.15-16.00 h (9.15-10.00 h lecture and discussion, seminar room 101 library / 10.15-16.00 h individual work)
Tuesday 13.00-16.30 h (13.00-15.30 h individual work / 15.30-16.30 h lecture and discussion, seminar room 101 library)
Measuring how plants “breathe” in the field and under the microscope. Field work and lab work. Selection of a plant family / group for measurements in the Botanical Garden (BoGa). Hand-held gas exchange measurement to determine the gas exchange of plants in the BoGa. Dental imprints, light microscopy and simple ImageJ-based image analysis to measure stomatal anatomy (size and density). Finally, simple biophysical calculations of gas exchange capacity. |
