Title Development of children with a chronic disease - A
Description Content: Medical progress has made it possible for children with chronic illnesses to have long-term and sometimes even good development opportunities (much better than in the past). Nevertheless, diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis (mucoviscidosis) and epilepsy pose great challenges for the children themselves, but also for their parents, both in terms of therapy and disease management, as well as long-term care and long-term management.
The aim of the seminar is to provide students with factual knowledge about the development of children suffering from these diseases, to sensitize them to the challenges posed by the diseases and to familiarize them with developmental psychological stressors and protective factors. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about and critically discuss health-promoting and psycho-educational measures in families, kindergartens and schools. The seminar will be a mixture of face-to-face sessions and home study / independent work.
The classroom sessions will take place on the following days, each Wednesday from 10-12: 5.3., 19.3., 2.4., 16.4., 7.5., and 14.5.25.
Requirements: The seminar will be designed in such a way that facts about the clinical picture gathered in the first part of each session will be compared and completed. A group of experts will then prepare an additional presentation focusing on the long-term, cognitive and social-emotional development of affected children and adolescents, family stressors and developmental psychological support and counseling.

Fact sheets must be uploaded to Ilias by Monday of the week in which the clinical picture is discussed at the latest (pass/fail, the fact sheets are not assessed).

The acquisition of the 5 ECTS requires (a) regular, active participation, (b) giving part of a presentation during a seminar session, (c) six fact sheets submitted on time and (d) passing an oral examination in May 2025.
The grade for the 5 ECTS is determined on the basis of the performance in the 20-minute oral examination.
Detailed information on the performance records will be given in the first seminar session. The dates for the oral examinations will take place in calendar week 21, i.e. from May 19 to 23, 2025.

Literature: The literature search and the factsheets tools should be done with artificial intelligence.
Registration: Registration must be done via KSL.
Study focus: Master's module in Developmental Psychology or Health Psychology (15, 30 or 45 ECTS) and as a compulsory elective course
