Title Development of children with a chronic disease
Description Content: Medical progress has made it possible for children with chronic illnesses to have long-term and sometimes even good development opportunities today (much better than in the past). Nevertheless, asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis (mucoviscidosis), cancer and epilepsy (and other diseases) pose major challenges for the children themselves, but also for their parents, both in terms of therapy and disease management, as well as long-term care and long-term management. And at the latest when these children start school or kindergarten, teachers and other professionals in the institutions are also confronted with the challenges.
The aim of the seminar is to provide students with factual knowledge about the development of children suffering from these diseases, to sensitize them to the challenges posed by the diseases and to familiarize them with developmental psychological stressors and protective factors. Furthermore, students should be given the opportunity to learn about and critically discuss health-promoting and psycho-educational measures in families, kindergartens and schools.

Requirements: The seminar will be organized in such a way that in the first part of each session, facts collected about the clinical picture will be compared and completed using the pre-structuring (fact sheets will be provided for completion). For the second part of the session, the group of experts must prepare a presentation focusing on the long-term, cognitive and social-emotional development of affected children and adolescents, family stressors and developmental psychological support and counseling. The grade for the seminar is awarded on the basis of the completed fact sheets for the 6 clinical pictures covered. The fact sheets must be submitted by e-mail by the Monday of the week in which the clinical picture is discussed at the latest (earlier is also possible). The acquisition of the 5 ECTS requires regular, active participation, the attendance of one session and 6 completed fact sheets submitted on time.
Literature: is searched for, compiled, integrated and used for the presentation by the students themselves. The use of tools with artificial intelligence is encouraged.
Registration: Registration must be made via KSL. Registration is binding and cannot be canceled or changed.
Study focus: The work completed in the seminar is recognized for a Master's module in Developmental Psychology (15, 30 or 45 ECTS) and as a compulsory elective.
It is also possible to write a seminar paper (seminar paper I: 25-30 p., 3 ECTS; seminar paper II: 35-40 p., 4 ECTS). Seminar papers are written independently by an individual and must comply with the guidelines of the Department of Developmental Psychology (see homepage).
