The Political Sociology of Crises |

Lecturer: Marta Antonova
In recent years, one crisis has been following on the heels of another, presenting decision-makers and societies with a wide spectrum of challenges. Whether economic, migrant, climate, electoral, geopolitical, or health-related, crises seem to have become the new normal.
Drawing on cross-disciplinary literature ranging from political economy, sociology, and political psychology to conflict studies, this course discusses the society-wide implications various crises can have and builds a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which large-scale threat and traumatic experiences shape socio-political developments.
Further, the course engages with methodological issues such as approaches to collecting sensitive and bias-prone data, and the ethical considerations in crisis-related research.
