Title |
Sustainability Governance |
Description |
Governance is often portrayed as a lever for sustainability transformations. Using a problem-based learning approach, the lecture critically examines whether, how and under what conditions certain governance strategies are suited to promote sustainable development. To this end, we will discuss contemporary theories and empirical evidence about selected governance strategies. These include (a) sustainability governance in the private sector (e.g. sustainability certification, social enterprises), (b) human rights and due diligence regulations, (c) accountability and transparency mechanisms, (d) multi-stakeholder governance, (e) community-based governance, (f) governance by goals (e.g. SDGs of the UN Agenda 2030), and (g) smart mixes of these different governance approaches.
The lecture will combine input presentations and interactive formats. Therefore, active participation is important. Course language is English.
Prerequisites: Completed bachelor's degree
The course has close relations with sustainable development, because it examines the roles of different governance strategies for sustainable development.
