Title |
Executive functions go to school: The role of EF on successful learning at school |
Description |
In this seminar we will focus on executive functions - a group of mental abilities that enable us to act in a planned, goal-oriented and thoughtful manner. Well-developed executive functions are an important basis for successful learning. They also help us to overcome problems, achieve independence and promote positive social behavior. Even primary school children can learn how to deal with executive functions. This means that they are able to control their attention, regulate themselves, apply strategies and plan tasks independently. However, thereby they need targeted guidance and support from their teachers and school psychologists. In this seminar we will deal with practical examples and activities to understand how this support can be successful.
Requirements: I. Reading all texts in preparation for the sessions. Literature will be provided at the start of the semester. II. Observations in a primary school class. III. Implementation of a program to support executive functions. IV. Creation of information media such as videos and brochures V. Group work and holding a poster presentation. VI. Regular and active participation. VII. Submitting a written assignment at the end of the semester. Further information on the written work will be announced during the seminar. The requirements other than the homework are not graded but must reach the level of "pass".
