Title |
The impact of emotions on social decision-making and behavior |
Description |
In the seminar, we explore the impact of emotions such as fear, anger, shame, and joy on our social decisions and behavior. We consider the influence of emotions from two perspectives:
Personal Influence: How do my own emotions affect decisions in social situations? For example, does anger alter my decisions compared to sadness or disappointment?
Interpersonal Influence: How do my emotions influence the decisions and behavior of my interaction partners?
We will discuss these topics using current experimental research findings. About two-thirds of the studies focus on behavioral findings, while the remaining third also provides insights into the neural underpinnings (fMRI studies).
The seminar relies on active and lively participation from students in each session. Assessment includes (1) a presentation on a scientific study on the topic (assigned by the instructor) and (2) an exam at the end of the semester. |
