Title |
Coping with critical life events across the lifespan |
Description |
Critical life events are often unpredictable and can be a challenge to health and well-being. They occur relatively unprepared, cause immense stress due to their high personal significance and affect social roles, relationships or important activities. Critical life events can have both negative and positive consequences for those affected and their significant others. Coping with critical life events depends on personal and contextual factors. Target group-specific interventions can strengthen key resources such as self-efficacy and coping behavior and thus make a significant contribution to maintaining or restoring health after a critical life event.
After a theoretical introduction, students work in a group to explore a specific critical life event, its potential effects and approaches to coping. In a didactically and methodically prepared seminar session, they bring their findings to the plenary, raise questions for discussion and show approaches for promoting adaptation. With a factsheet on the topic, they create a possible aid for practice. At the end of the semester, the work is presented, similarities and differences are discussed and conclusions are drawn for the possible promotion of coping with critical life events. |
