Title |
A Hands-on Introduction to Text Encoding with XML According to the TEI Guidelines |
Description |
Cutting edge digital scholarly editions rely on representations of texts in XML (Extensible Markup Language) code according to the standards set by the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). The course teaches the fundamentals of XML and of the TEI P5 guidelines. Participants will encode and annotate texts from the scholarly Jeremias Gotthelf edition using the XML editor Oxygen. Additionally, the students explore some of the software’s most helpful features as well as the further processing of XML coded texts.
No prerequisites in programming or reading German cursive are required. Bring your own device course (system requirements: https://www.oxygenxml.com/xml_editor/download_oxygenxml_editor.html). Instructions for installing the software and license data will be provided in advance. |
