Title |
Reading Targumim: Introduction to the targumim |
Description |
Aramaic has been one of the languages spoken by Jewish communities since the Persian period, and it remained in use among both Jews and Christians during the Roman and Byzantine periods. The Bible, as a central text, was mediated to these communities through numerous Aramaic translations (targumim). Consequently, the study of these translations provides fascinating insights into the theological concepts of those communities and their use and reception od the Bible.
Languages in class will be German and English. |
