Title Practices of Language Transmission in the Context of Migration
Description The seminar “Practices of Language Transmission in the Context of Migration” offers an in-depth analysis of language dynamics in migration situations. It will cover key scenarios such as language maintenance, language loss, language attrition, and language revitalization to develop original research questions and collect empirical data through a qualitative semi-structured interview with a multilingual person living in Switzerland. The seminar, conducted jointly by Silvia Natale and Katrin Karl, will include an introductory part in German with slides available in Italian. At the same time, group work will adopt a multilingual approach, considering different migrant languages in Switzerland, including Slavic languages. The interview with a multilingual person is prepared, conducted, transcribed, and evaluated in group work and under the supervision of the seminar leaders. A joint discussion of the experiences and results concludes the seminar.
