Title |
PA: Political and Ethical Dimensions in Archaeology |
Description |
Archaeology is far more than the mere reconstruction of past ways of life. It continually intersects with pressing political and ethical questions, whether in the management of cultural heritage, the repatriation of objects to source communities, or addressing responsibilities towards the environment and society. This seminar will explore these dimensions and discuss the roles archaeologists can—and should—play in an increasingly globalized and politically charged world.
The key topics of the seminar include:
- Archaeology at the intersection of identity and nationalism
- Addressing colonial legacies and restitution issues
- Ethical challenges in the excavation and publication of sensitive finds
- Sustainability and responsibility in archaeological practice
In addition to academic readings and introductory lectures, participants will engage with case studies through their own presentations to foster lively and interactive discussions. |
