Title |
Psychotherapy for schizophrenia |
Description |
Schizophrenia is among the most severe mental disorders. The disorder is associated with far-reaching impairments in all central areas of life and therefore often results in drastic life changes. After initial pessimism due to a lack of success, significant progress has been made in the psychotherapeutic treatment of schizophrenic disorders since the early 1980s. The efficacy as well as the effectiveness of a number of psychotherapeutic approaches is now well documented, which is reflected in clear evidence-based recommendations in international treatment guidelines.
The course will start with a detailed presentation and discussion of the psychopathology of schizophrenic disorders. The diagnostic criteria and classification according to the latest versions of the most relevant classification systems ICD and DSM are then presented. Furthermore, the current position of knowledge on the etiology and pathogenesis as well as the prevailing neuroscientific and cognitive-scientific disease models are outlined. In addition, the up-to-date treatment recommendations of the most important international therapy guidelines and the existing possibilities and limitations of pharmacotherapeutic treatment are delineated. On this basis, the various evidence-based psychotherapy methods are then portrayed in detail. Their theoretical foundations, the formation of the therapeutic alliance, interviewing and dialogue techniques, problem analysis, clarification of expectations and goals, as well as proven cognitive-behavioral therapy methods for
- psychoeducation,
- stress management,
- relapse prevention,
- improvement of neuro- and social-cognitive performance deficits,
- teaching instrumental social skills,
- modification of delusional beliefs,
- coping with hallucinations
and their respective empirical grounds are presented and discussed in detail. |
