Seminar Organizational Field Experiments |
| Description |
Students will learn how to investigate a practical research question using a field experiment. They will be guided through conducting a field experiment in cooperation with an external partner, developing an experimental design, and testing targeted measures for their effectiveness.
Structure:
The seminar begins with an introductory session. Groups are formed, and each group selects their own external partner. This can be a company, an organization, a school, a club, a cafeteria, a fitness center, etc. Together with the partner, the groups define a research setting.
Each group develops a research design, which is discussed and refined in a workshop with all groups and the instructors. Afterwards, students implement their experiment, analyze the collected data, and summarize their findings in a short academic paper.
Topic for Spring Semester 2026:
This semester, the seminar focuses on the topic of Nudging. Whether it concerns promoting sustainable decisions, encouraging healthier eating, or fostering environmentally friendly behaviors in everyday life (e.g., proper waste disposal or reducing water consumption) – small, well-designed nudges can help people make “better,” welfare-enhancing choices without restricting individual freedom.
Potential focus areas will be discussed in class, while groups remain free to choose their specific setting.
Registration Information:
You can register for the seminar by sending an email to Michèle Kaeser (michele.kaeser@unibe.ch). The seminar is limited to 12 participants.
Participation Requirements:
You should have attended or currently be attending one of the following lectures: Advanced
Organization I or Advanced Organization II.
Participation in this seminar fulfills part of the requirements for writing a Master's thesis at the IOP-O. To write a Master's thesis, you must also have completed one of the courses Advanced Organization I or Advanced Organization II.
Attendance at all seminar sessions is mandatory. |
