Title Judith Butler: Who’s afraid of gender?
Description In this seminar, we read Judith Butlers most recent book, “Who’s afraid of gender” (2024). It is both, an analysis of the anti-gender rhetorics that emerged in the past decades and a compilation of the many reasons why gender studies matters.
The reading seminar is open for everyone interested in the recent history of anti-feminist and anti-gender movements and their relation to religion and right-wing politics. It also provides an overview of the seminal contributions of gender studies scholars in the fields of cultural studies, social sciences, postcolonial studies, science and technology studies as well as feminist biology. The seminar serves therefore also as a general introduction into gender, queer and trans studies.
