Title |
Depression treatments |
Description |
In this seminar, new and effective psychotherapeutic treatments of depression will be presented and discussed. The treatments include schema therapy according to Young, Klosko and Weishaar, emotion-focused therapy according to Greenberg and Watson, interpersonal therapy according to Pettit and Joiner, CBASP according to McCullough and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy according to Segal, Williams and Teasdale. Presentations of the individual treatments should focus on the different underlying explanations for depression and on the specific therapeutic interventions. Based on a case, which will be presented at the beginning of the seminar, chosen therapeutic procedures will be demonstrated in role-play. For each treatment approach, discussion points will be proposed to encourage an in depth examination of the similarities and differences between the presented treatments.
Seminar requirements:
Students are expected to take part regularly and to actively participate in the discussions. In addition, they will read a book on one of the proposed treatments and make either a half-hour presentation on the explanatory model or on therapeutic procedures (including demonstration in role-play).
Course assessment: The seminar will conclude with an exam. The grade is comprised of the grade for the presentation (50%) and the grade for the exam (50%). |
