Title |
Psychotherapy research: What works together and how? |
Description |
Research in the field of the effects of psychotherapy states fairly little on the mechanism of operation of psychotherapy. That is why the benefits of therapy are often attributed to technique or the therapeutic alliance. Furthermore, there are still several unanswered questions regarding psychotherapy research. Examples are “Is good therapy outcome the result of alliance or technique?”, “Is the outcome attributable to the therapist or the patient?” or “Are RCTs a blessing or a curse?”.
In the beginning of the semester, we will have a look at multiple psychotherapy research approaches like “Prescriptive Psychoptherapy”, “Systematic treatment selection” and “Aptitude by treatment interaction”. Moreover, we will discuss newer research methods like simulation models. In the course of the class, we will cover all the variables that might have an effect on the treatment outcome. Examples are patient variables, therapist variables, alliance, technique or different psychotherapeutic orientations.
Regular presence (a maximum of two absences), active participation and a presentation in class will be expected. Moreover, scientific posters will be made which will be presented in a weekly poster session. |
