Title |
Society - Power - Space: critical geopolitics and political geography |
Description |
The lecture takes place in form of an inter-university lecture series in cooperation with the universities of Bayreuth, Bern, Bonn, Frankfurt, Freiburg and Münster. It gives an overview over new perspectives and themes of the field of political geography. After an introduction to key theories that focus on the relationship between space, society and power, the lecturers will discuss current theoretical perspectives on issues of political geography on the basis of their own empirical research. These empirical research projects will be contextualized within broader global processes of transformation and societal developments with regard to asymmetrical relations of power and structural inequality on different scales. The themes discussed in this lecture series reaches from critical and feminist geopolitics, critical military geography, public finances and urban social movements to ways to deal with the current global pandemic and digital justice.
*** COVID-19: The lecture will be held as a digital lecture series, which will be complemented by reading and discussion groups meeting in presence. Students will be provided with the 30-45min lectures of the lecturers of the different university locations as videocasts together with work assignments for each session in advance via ILIAS. At the time of the lecture (Tue 16.15-17.45) a zoom session will take place in which we will discuss the work assignments in plenary sessions on the one hand and in breakout groups together with the guest speaker on the other hand. *** |
