The aim of this course is to introduce students to a number of topics in labour economics, which relate to various current policy debates around the world. The topics will be covered from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Students will learn about a range of stylized facts related to labour market outcomes such as employment, unemployment, wage growth, wage inequality, as well as trade, technological change and the labour market. We will discuss recent theoretical models and empirical strategies that have been developed to analyze these trends.
Readings:
The main (required) text for the course is Cahuc, Carcillo, and Zylberberg, Labor Economics, 2nd
Edition: I will sometimes use Benjamin, Gunderson, Lemieux, and
Riddell, Labour Market Economics, 7th Edition and Angrist and
Pischke, Mostly Harmless Econometrics.
Prerequisites:
Level: Advanced Bachelor and Master students
Good knowledge of statistical software (STATA, R)
Evaluation:
The breakdown of the course grade is as follows:
Paper Presentation and Report (in group of 2 students) 25%
Assignment 1 25%
Assignment 2 25%
Assignment 3 25%
No midterm or final exam
Lectures: The lecture will take place in classroom

Everyone is expected to attend class and participate regularly. Attendance during presentations
(December 13 and December 20) is obligatory. Students failing to attend class during the presentation days
will not receive a grade.
