Title |
Ethics of the Anthropocene |
Description |
No matter whether the term Anthropocene designates a new geological age, a boundary event or an interruption, human beeings understand themself in each case as the cause of planetary relevant and negative changes, (in particular of the climate change and the 6th species extinction), thus as the cause of evils. But since guilt can be understood in general as the cause of an evil, then the human being is the cause of these evils, thus: guilty, and the term Anthropocene names at the same time the guilty party: human beings, us. Guilt, in turn, is a basic ethical category, and thus there is a close connection between the Anthropocene and ethics. The lecture would like to explore this connection in more detail. |
