Title |
Early detection and intervention in adolescents and young adults at high risk for psychosis |
Description |
Psychotic disorders in adolescents and young adults are associated with huge burden and psychosocial impairments in school/vocational and social activities. Prognosis for the clinical course of the disorder is particularly poor if the duration of untreated illness is long. Therefore, an indicated prevention approach has been developed to intervene as early as possible in persons, who show first signs of emerging psychosis, with the aim to prevent conversion to full-blown psychosis and to reduce the detrimental effects associated with it.
Thus, indicated prevention faces two important challenges:
• the precise identification of adolescents and young adults at clinical high risk for psychosis.
• an effective treatment.
Against this background, the participants of this seminar will get an overview of the following topics:
• definition of the clinical state of high risk (HR) for psychosis
• criteria to detect a clinical high risk of psychosis and their psychometric assessment
• evidence-based interventions for prevention in adolescents and young adult with clinical high risk for psychosis. |
