Moral Psychology |
Description |
Philosophers and scientists have long been fascinated by the human ability to make moral and ethical choices.
In this seminar, we will discuss theory and research results in the field of moral psychology with a focus is on the mental processes that guide moral judgment and moral decision making. We will rely on social, cognitive, and developmental psychological research and findings in the field of social and affective neuroscience and philosophy.
The seminar provides an overview of the most important theoretical debates and empirical developments in the field of moral psychology. We will deal with fundamental questions of moral psychology, such as:
- How moral judgments are influenced and formed by intuition, emotions, and conscious conclusions.
- Which behaviors do we consider to be immoral at all?
- Do moral judgments differ according to political orientation?
- What are the origins of moral judgments (from an evolutionary and developmental psychological perspective)?
- How can we infer the moral character of a person?
- When do we punish other people and what are the consequences of this punishment?
- What are similarities and differences between negative and positive moral judgments? |
