Title |
Seminar "Lawscapes – Interdisciplinary approaches to law of land, air and sea* |
Description |
„Nature“ is not a mere external reality to social life, but socially constructed and regulated through law. This seminar invites participants to investigate how law shapes our understanding of nature – “high seas”, “airspace”, or “common land” – and how law enables our use, exploit and relate to natural spaces. During the seminar, students will combine analysing regulations, cases and legal debates with examining empirical and theoretical contributions from the social sciences, anthropology and history.
The seminar will be organised in four thematic blocks, each of which will analyse the topics in relation to land, air and sea. The first block will cover general principles, the second questions of ownership and extraction, the third trade and mobility and the fourth sustainability and protection.
