Title |
Between learning and remembering |
Description |
In experimental memory research in psychology, either the learning or the remembering of subjects is studied. But the essential processes of storing experiences take place offline, silently, in the time between learning and remembering. This is where sleep plays a crucial role. In this seminar we will look at the neurobiological processes that underlie the long-term storage of experience on the one hand and the forgetting of experience on the other. We will also ask which factors determine the retention and forgetting of experiences. And are memory disorders and amnesias predominantly rooted in a disturbance of the consolidation of the experienced between learning and remembering?
In the seminar, the English-language articles read are mainly discussed and not widely presented again. Only the oral performance will be graded. Participation in the seminar requires prior knowledge of neuroscience and the willingness to independently acquire further neurobiological basics in the seminar.
