Title |
Introduction to Orthodox Theology. Divine grace and human freedom |
Description |
The lecture offers a synthetic presentation of Orthodoxy with its main doctrines, ecclesial structures and practices. It then addresses the specificity of the Orthodox understanding of the human-God relationship, focusing on the interaction (synergeia) between divine grace and human freedom (cf. 1 Cor 3:9). Particularly addressed are the arguments in the debate on the doctrine of synergism (semi-Pelagianism) and its consequences for modern Orthodox theology, as well as the implications for ecumenical dialogue. The duality passivity-activity is problematised in relation to Orthodox anthropology and the doctrine of grace in order to shed light on the issue of salvation/divinisation from an Orthodox perspective but also from an interdenominational point of view.
