Title |
International Environmental Law |
Description |
This course will give Master programme students an overview of international environmental law and of the main challenges of international environmental governance. It will combine legal analysis with practical insight into international negotiations. The course will begin with a short introduction in the basics of public international law and of economic theory. It will then give an overview of international environmental governance, including the relevant institutions, processes and actors. It will present the major concepts, principles and rules of international environmental law; address the main thematic areas (climate change, biodiversity, ozone layer, chemicals, waste, water and forests); and discuss the interface of international law with trade and development.
It is important that students are prepared to complete a substantial amount of reading before each class as well as to participate actively in discussions.
