Preparation courses (elective course)
Selection criterion: students of the Master's Program Biomedical Engineering are given preference. PhD students, students from other study programs or guest students are admitted to this course if free places are available.
For questions on course and exam registration contact bme.artorg@unibe.ch.
Prerequisites: This course aims primarily at students who have only little or no knowledge in electrical engineering. Some basics in physics and math are, however, required.
Required Material or Equipment: Laptop with MATLAB and TinaCloud installed
Distribution of Course Materials: Course materials are regularly posted on Ilias (www.ilias.unibe.ch).
Textbook(s) and other Reading Material: N. Storey, Electronics, A Systems Approach, 6th ed. Pearson, 2017
Course type: lecture
Module: Basic Module "Biomedical Engineering" (mandatory)
Course registration:
Selection criteria: 1. Biomedical Engineering students. 2. GCB students. 3. Other students.

Required Material or Equipment:
• A laptop with MATLAB installed is required for this course.
Course materials are regularly posted on Ilias (www.ilias.unibe.ch).
Main Prerequisites:
• Know the definition of electric charge, electric field, electric current, electric potential, voltage, resistance, power, work, energy and be able to perform calculations with these quantities
• Know how voltages, currents, and resistances can be measured
• Be able to perform calculations in electrical circuits with voltage sources and resistors using Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws, rules for resistors in series and in parallel, and the voltage divider rule
• Know some properties of basic electrical components (capacitors, inductors, diodes, LEDs, relays) and be able to calculate electrical quantities in circuits with these components
• Be able to solve a differential equation to obtain the voltage over time for a charging capacitor
• Know how to describe sinusoidal quantities
