Title Seminar: Advance Purchase Markets - the Best Time to Purchase Your Airline Ticket
Description ***This seminar substitutes for the former seminar " How to sell a product". The two seminars are identical in content, and should not be taken both by the same student (ECTS or a grade can only be received for one of the two!)

Advance purchase markets allow the marketing of a product long before its actual consumption, and thus make dynamic pricing, i.e. the fact that prices may vary with time, especially relevant. Examples include airline and event tickets, participation in conferences and marathons, wine, and seasonal products like the newest skiing equipment. In this course we examine the main trade-offs a consumer encounters when deciding WHEN to buy a product for later consumption. We investigate how firms use their pricing strategies to allocate consumer purchases over time and how competition amongst firms influences the corresponding price and purchase dynamics. Students contribution is a seminar presentation of an assigned research article and the own drafting of an empirical research proposal. All work takes place in teams of three students.
