Title |
Soil Biogeochemistry |
Description |
Lecture in English. Biogeochemistry investigates the structure, properties and transformation of compounds on the Earth. The term „bio“ points out that pure geochemistry is not possible because all ecosystems on the Earth’s surface are biologically influenced.
The following subjects will be treated in the lecture: Hydrological cycle, carbon cycle, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur cycle, trace elements (metals) as inorganic pollutants and micronutrients; organic pollutants; the problem of microplastic; the use of stable and radiogenic isotopes to investigate natural processes and to trace sources of pollution. The lecture will focus on the pedosphere but will also discuss its interactions with the bio-, litho-, hydro-, and atmosphere. Thereby also basic chemistry and soil science knowledge will be refreshed.
The knowledge on the different subjects will be strengthened with specific exercices. |
