Description |
Block course: 4.-6. February 2025, Start: Tuesday, 4. February 2025, 8.15 h, lecture hall Institute of Plant Sciences
Examination: Friday, 14.02.2025, 9.15-11.00 h
Only for Master students! This is course is not recommended for students who attended the course "476763 Pasteur to today: managing biorisks and the broad spectrum of biosafety and biosecurity", because – with the exception of radiation safety – there is too much overlap.
The course in lab safety covers the following topics:
- General lab safety (dangers, solutions, rules)
- Radiation safety (radioactive decay, radiation biology, assessing radiation safety in the lab, legal basics of radiation safety)
- Biosafety
- Chemical safety
It comprises lectures, practical exercises and short talks.
General safety rules in a research laboratory including handling of chemicals, use of radioisotopes and genetically modified organisms are discussed. Legal aspects and practical procedures in the laboratory are introduced. Methods for safe handling and for the proper treatment of wastes are included as well as monitoring techniques. |
